Since the begining of the year, I vowed to start saving money agressively. With working two part-time jobs and an internship, it took me from January 1st to April 10th,  exactly 100 days to save $1,000. My goal now is to try and beat the time frame to save with a combination of investing, and possibly another job when school lets out in May.

This afternoon I received an email from the Black Professionals Social Network Meetup group. They were meeting at the Hyde Park Art Center at 8:00 p.m. Tonight the Hyde Park Art Center was hosting a Cocktails and Clay party which they host every second Friday of the month. I decided to attend.  This was going to be my first meeting with the group.  James312, the host was the first person I recognized. He was standing against a pillar. I greeted him after checking in and signing up for the clay class.

For our class assignement, our instructor had us partner up with someone who we didn’t know. She had hoped to have the class put blindfolds on and sculpt the face of our new partner, but unfortunately, she face a overwhelming opposition of her idea. After about 10 minutes, I felt a need to touch my partner’s face. I felt a need to get her contours correct. I became very difficult to do with her face turned sideways as she was working on sculpting my face. This is a picture of my completed 45 minute project.

After class was over, I went to take a look at some of the art. Part of their exhibit included pictures taken by students from Kenwood Academy High School. The most interesting picture displayed was a picture taken by Justine Jackson entitled “Suicide by Train”

Yesterday I purchased a 3 month certificate of deposit with GMAC. I saw that my savings account with Bank of America was only paying .02% APY. This move alone will increase my interest income.

After looking at how much I earned in interest last month ($0.10), I’ve been thinking of ways to increase my interest earnings along with ways to earn some extra income. My first goal is to earn $100.00 from a variety of ways that include starting a home business, selling art, photography, writing, playing music, and stock investing. I have two requirments; First it can’t come from either of my part-time jobs , and secondly, it has to generated from things I have an interest in making a living from.  I plan on keeping track of all investments including my time.
