Today I wanted to start expressing my gratitude, thanks and give praise to HIM which all blessings come from. I thought it would be a good idea to return to the church organization that I was baptized with fourteen years ago; The Chicago Church of Christ (I was actually baptized with the L.A. Church of Christ.)
Upon entering the I.I.T. campus auditorium where service was being held, I felt a sense of completeness that I have never felt before. I finally knew, without question, why I was attending church. Today, like no other day, there was a purpose. To give thanks for the many blessings I’ve received. Especially the wisdom and understanding of gratitude I that was bestowed upon me earlier this week.
Service started off just as it did over a decade ago. First with a few songs of praise. Next would be the testimonial from a member. Today’s service there were two members giving testimonials. Interestingly enough, one woman who shared her struggles with attending church would be similar to my own story. And after the break, the sermon from the minister.
The Sermon: God’s Will
Today’s sermon was on God’s Will. The message was simple. Our life here on earth is not for ourselves but to give glory and honor to GOD. That is HIS Will. What was interesting to me were a few statements that the minister made that normally, in the past, would have disturbed me to not even come back to this church. However, I had to suspend my judgement to really hear what the message was (a clear example of not shooting the messenger.)
Blessings from GOD
What I have always liked about the Church of Christ is their great fellowship after service. Members always seem to reach out to visitors with a conversation and thanks for joining them in worship. And without fail, today wasn’t any different. Quite a few members reached out to introduce themselves to me. During one of my conversations with a member, I shared with him that I was looking for a part-time job. He mentioned that he knew a great part-time job with flexible hours and he also knew the V.P. of the company. When he told me the name of the company, I mentioned to him that I had just applied to that company only a few days ago. Was this a fortuitous conversation or a manifestation of GOD working? I would like to believe it is the later. In any case, I thank GOD for his blessings and giving me the wisdom to see HIS Greatness.
