I’ve now moved into the section of the book that ask to “just look” at what drives our behavior regarding money. Fear is the topic Nemeth ask her readers to look at.  From workaholism, to gambling, and information addictions, she exposes what’s really driving these behaviors.

Here are my favorite quotes from this chapter.

  • “Driven behavior is a lot like flies buzzing in fast circles on a hot day: it produces a lot of noise and activity but leaves behind nothing of substance”
  • “Running from this fear locks us into patterns of behavior that we don’t think much about. We’re under too much stress to stop what we’re doing and ask if it’s working for us, or if it’s what we really want. We think we don’t have time to get off the fast track and change. Our racing thoughts blind us from seeing what has real meaning to us. Instead, we’re distracted by what we must have, be or do just to survive.”
